Most of my life, I have actively collected fossils. My love of fossils has led to an interest in the ideas of time and death as expressed in nature. Fossils (dead and preserved animals and plants) are reminders of species no longer living, but for us being able to touch and handle them gives them a second life. To me, fossils are literally and figuratively “footprints in the sands of time.” I hope that my viewer will see the clock and the spiraling ammonite fossil as symbols of the passage of time while the bright ginkgo and fern leaves symbolize survivors of extinction.
