Andrew Wilson, the Writer
College, Academic Interests and Experiences
I grew up in a small suburb north of Chicago where I still live today. I’m a college student finishing my Associate’s Degree in Liberal Arts at Oakton Community College in Des Plaines, IL. My academic interests are history, psychology, and humanities. I plan to transfer to a four year college in the Chicago area when I finish my Associate’s Degree. I have been taking improv classes at Second City and I’m planning to be part of a coached ensemble that will perform improv in the Chicago area.
My Identity as a Writer
As a kid, I enjoyed drawing cartoons and writing creative stories. One of several cartoon characters I created is Piggy Oink, a spherical shaped pig with a mischievous attitude. I have a copyright on this character and I hope one day to write stories about Piggy Oink and post them to a website I have created. I find that writing about my personal experiences in life is more meaningful for me than academic writing. My essays in this e Portfolio relate to my experiences in life.
My Short-Term and Long-Term Goals as a Writer
As a writer, my short term goals are improving my reading and writing skills and finishing my Associate's Degree. My long term goals as a writer are continuing my education and getting a Bachelor's degree. I am not sure yet what my major will be, but I am planning to update my e Portfolio with additional writing from college. I think this will be helpful in the future for showing my writing skills when I transfer to a four year college, to potential employers or to get internships. I would like to continue working on my Piggy Oink website and write more stories. I’m also thinking about taking my essay about Second City and turning it into a story that I can submit to a magazine for people with anxiety.
